A Team of 5 Sailing to Cape Town
Our overnight to Cape Town was the very first time that this crew of 5 have sailed together, and it was also the very first time that Angela had sailed and been out on a boat. We wasted no time starting our shifts, as we were eager to find out groove and start to bond as a sailing team.
The weather was mild and the night air carried the typical Western Cape chill, a decent breeze kept the genoa out all night making a pretty swift and smooth sail, at least for some of us,
Angela faced a rather harsh initiation to sailing, after enjoying a delicious hot Mexican Pizza at Charlies before departure, completely unaware of what was about to come her way. Severe sea sickness hit really hard, literally with projectile force. Thankfully, Lester stepped in, keeping her comfortable and hydrated. Despite the ordeal, Angela's resilience shone through, she was still determined to keep sailing and do the big crossing, her bravery spoke volumes.
Finally, the short sail of approximately 109 nautical miles started coming to an end. As we saw the majestic Table Mountain in front of us, we steered toward the Cape Grace Maina under the beautiful Cape Town sky which welcomed us with magnicient weather.
By now Eric and I have enough experience to cruise in here with pride and ease as we know the marina well, so it felt a little like coming home.
We needed to ensure some good rest as we know the next few days are going to be busy with provisioning for the longer leg up to Luderitz and across to St Helena. Then of course some boat work needed to be done, a few basic maintenance thiungs, as well as a generator service and our fibreglass girl demanded a good protective polish. Safely tied up in our berth it is time to start planning the coming days.
