Panama City Shenanigans

Panama City Shenanigans

We checked into our spacious Airbnb which was our home for 10 days, from where we could enjoy all that this city has to offer.

We got settled into our accommodation and a quick grocery store stop that was conveniently right next door, we grabbed, a few essentials, so that we had breakfasts and a couple dinners for when we decided to eat in.

Later in the afternoon we ventured out for a rather long walk along the promenade, to be greeted by a gorgeous cosmopolitan city, that was very clean and felt safe. The skyline was adorned with modern skyscrapers and the streets filled with spaces of free, basketball courts, football fields, outdoor gyms and more, all wonderful spaces for youth or anyone for that matter, to enjoy the freedom of sport and gatherings in a safe environment, which to me is a fantastic idea as a positive sporting environment often eludes some children due to class disparity. I would imagine that this plays a large role in keeping kids off the streets and out of gangs.

We also got a last-minute visit from Ben, Eric’s newphew, who had been travelling around Central America, I am also pretty sure that Makyla was happy to have some company in her own age category.

As you may have realized by now, we are foodies, so it goes without saying that for Saturday we had booked a food tour, that promised to fulfil our culinary curiosity and would surely be filled with flavour and experience. Our first stop was the charming Café Lavanda where we had delicious coffee and a rather sweet but delicious breakfast.

One of our highlights was the market which was a total feast for the senses, it was alive with colour, smells and lots of local chatter. Here we tasted fruits and got smells that we did not recognize.

The day unfolded with a very interesting spectrum of food, a bit of a rollercoaster to say the least, as we went from places that were quite high end to places that were boarding on shanty town. Our food experience went from Panamanian infused Asian to the more adventurous pickled pigs feet and onions …. yup we did that.

Let’s not forget the very exciting stop along the route to see the ever-evasive sloth, what a cute little creature.
