The Fire

The Fire

After a little more than 72 hours of total internet silence, I had no longer been putting my phone on night mode, of course while I am in the very best part of my sleep starlink comes to life, as does my phone which jolts me awake with a continued pinging and vibration, like a demonic alarm clock that you can't turn off.

When it finally silenced, I picked it up and saw 350 messages, I mean seriously that is ridiculous, 🙈 I need coffee before I venture into opening anything, as this is going to take me a while to read through.

Eric was already upstairs and clearly came into signal at the same time, he says Babes, there is something about a fire, my heart drops into my stomach and I grab my phone. As I start to read with total horror and sorrow, that Intle Boutique Hotel has suffered a devastating fire, with extensive damage.

Since we were for the very first time completely out of reach, our amazing team got everything under control, by the time I was able to make contact the flames were out and most of the immediate chaos was under control. All that was left for me in this moment was simply to get myself caught up on what happened and the extent of the damage, which turned out that we would have to be closed and re-building for close to a year.

We were incredibly fortunate in that no one was injured and our team received the most incredible support from the community in managing the fire and getting the blaze under control, we are very grateful for this support.

Looking back now, I am thankful that I was blissfully unaware of what was unfolding at the time, as I would have been an emotional wreck and most likely, have been very distracted from my sailing responsibilities, as the reality is that there would not have been a single thing that I realistically could have done.

Well done to the team, who took control in a time where we were not able to. We are very grateful that no one was injured. The building we can build up again! Soon Intle will be back to its glory
