The Splash
Finally, splash day has arrived! We both felt a little nervous, as we have not sailed or even touched the boat in three months.
Of course Mother Nature had no mercy and decided to throw in a curveball. The wind is howling today, and we are docking at the spot currently getting hit the hardest. Never have we seen Shelter Bay Marina this gusty. It was challenging, but we rocked it! Eric maneuvered the vessel with ease, and I handled the fenders and lines.
Although exhasted and hot, we are now chilling with an ice-cold beer while I write this.
We could not decompress straight away, as a catamaran was coming in on our bow with only one working engine. We had to stand ready to push, shove and fend off. Sadly, they hit the corner of the jetty really hard, causing signicant damage to their boat ... sad .. but thankfully, they never hit ours.
There is a huge amount of work ahead in the next few days - cleaning and getting her ready to live on again. We will have some early mornings to get the physical tasks done before it gets too hot.
So, after the nerves and hear exhaustion, we are tied up, safe and sound, and will finally sleep in our floating home tonight.
